CANNON HAS LAST LAUGH

- BEN BLOOM

REGGIE CANNON proved QPR have the bottle for a relegation fight – by laughing off being hit on the head by one.

The American right-back (above) was lying injured on the Loftus Road turf after making a crucial goal-line clearance during the

Hoops’ victory over Millwall, when an object thrown from the away fans came flying through the net.

Cannon initially thought the ball had been booted at him – but later found out from a team-mate it was a bottle thrown by an angry Millwall yob.

Fortunately he was unharmed and, buoyed by a crucial three points, brushed off the incident.

“That’s just English football,” he said. “I’m really loving it, really enjoying it.

“The culture here is great, the environment is great, the pressure is great. You could see the energy and intensity within the game, it just makes me a better player.”

Cannon signed a fouryear deal with QPR last summer after three seasons with Boavista in Portugal’s top flight.

He added: “English football is so close – you can always feel the breath of the fans right there.

“In Portugal, you can’t really hear, so it’s just the players versus players.

“Here it feels like the fans versus the players versus the staff. It’s a culture where it feels like everyone is involved.

“I really feel the intensity of these games.”

Goals from Ilias Chair and Sinclair Armstrong ended an eight-game winless streak for QPR.

Lions boss Joe Edwards said his players “fell into a rut” and “played predictable football” as they managed just two shots all match.

Japhet Tanganga came off the bench for his debut and Edwards suggested the new Spurs loanee could be ready to start against Preston on Saturday.
