THE Tanaiste said yesterday he would tell EU leaders “there is no excuse” for delays getting humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Micheal Martin added the Foreign Affairs Council summit in Brussels would be “intensive”.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine was also set to be discussed.

The 27 EU foreign ministers were also meeting counterparts from Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan.

On his way into the meeting, Mr Martin said: “From Ireland’s perspective, we will be again putting a lot of pressure on and calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, and also absolute, unimpeded access for humanitarian aid.”

ASSOCIATES of gangland murder victim Jason Hennessy are attempting to source hand grenades – to launch a bloody revenge attack over his death, it has emerged.

Sources have told The Mirror that men closely linked to the 48-year-old grandfather are attempting to source grenades from other criminals in Northern Ireland and the Republic.

His former associates are known to be extremely volatile – and news that they are trying to get their hands on such deadly military-grade devices has set gardaí on high alert.

The men are known to be out for blood over the death of Hennessy, from Corduff in Blanchardstown, west Dublin, who died in the city’s Mater Hospital on January 4.

Hennessy, who was known to gardaí and was due to stand trial in the city on money laundering charges next year, suffered serious injuries when hitman

Tristan Sherry shot him in a bloody attack at inside Browne’s Steakhouse in Blanchardstown on Christmas Eve.

Sherry, 26, later died at the scene. A number of males have been charged with his murder, while two others have been charged with lesser offences.

Hennessy was not Sherry’s intended target – but was shot several times as he confronted the gunman. It had been thought he would survive his injuries, but his condition deteriorated and he later died.

As well as trying to source hand grenades, sources have revealed that

Hennessy’s associates are also hunting the people they suspect supplied Sherry and his sidekick with weapons for the attack. Sherry was armed with a machine pistol and his accomplice had an ordinary handgun.

Sherry was allegedly attacked and died at the scene – but the second gunman fled and has not been arrested yet.

Sources say the Hennessy associates suspect Sherry sourced the weapons from criminals in Northern Ireland and are trying to hunt them down and exact revenge form them. Gardaí in west

Dublin are now braced for fresh violence connected to the attack on Hennessy. Detectives are mounting armed patrols in west Dublin in a bid to prevent attacks.

Mr Hennessy was buried in Corduff on Saturday as gardai formed a ring of steel around the funeral over fears there could be reprisals.

His Hulk-themed coffin arrived at St Patrick’s Church on a vehicle recovery truck belonging to his business.

His remains were carried into the church by pallbearers after being removed from the truck, which was emblazoned with tributes referring to the deceased as ‘the boss man’ and ‘Daddy Jay’.

One onlooker remarked there were nearly as many police officers as mourners after three busloads of public order gardai were drafted in to provide support to uniformed personnel.

In the background, units from Armed Support patrolled the area in and around the church well ahead of the funeral.
