Johnny’s copter new series

-

Channel 4, 9pm

FAMILY and friends of Johnny Vegas mercilessly mocked him when he revealed his outlandish idea to set up Britain’s coolest bespoke boutique glampsite – with refurbished buses.

“It’s not the worst idea you’ve ever had… remember when you wanted to set up that water restaurant?” said one mate as they all fell about laughing. Setbacks the comic faced ranged from a Maltese bus being stuck on board a fire-ravaged ship to a major planning issue.

But he proved everyone wrong, successfully launching his Field Of Dreams glampsite, which was booked out for the whole season.

As the series returns, Johnny wants to relaunch it with a bigger and better campsite, full of his unique rescued and upcycled vehicles as well as new additions – including a helicopter. He and his long-suffering assistant Bev travel around looking for the perfect location on an adventure which quite often turns into farce.

They scope out an old racecourse in East Sussex and even visit TV presenter Jimmy Doherty’s Farm and Wildlife Park in Suffolk in the hope of finding the right spot.

In the meantime, the original Yorkshire Dales site must be cleared, and getting Patricia the Maltese bus and the other vehicles off site is as tricky as it was getting them on.

Johnny, 53, also reveals other wacky ideas, including one for helicopter treehouses. With the help of aeronautical engineer turned furniture designer Stu, he cuts a deal to buy a dilapidated Puma chopper to convert into a pod – but it needs a lot of work.

Johnny is a genuine campervan enthusiast, which gives this series an authentic stamp of approval.
