New York, Paris, Peckham.. Hollywood? David hot to trot

- BY JEREMY ARMSTRONG news@irishmirror.ie

THIS time next year, Only Fools and Horses star David Jason could be a Hollywood millionaire.

The TV legend revealed he still dreams about getting a big break in movies at the age of 83.

David said: “I try not to look back too much. The past is a foreign country and they do things differently there, but I couldn’t be happier with how my career has turned out.

“One of my ambitions is to be part of a major movie, as that would complete my dream of a Hollywood experience. “Any producers out there?”

Sir David, who turns 84 on Friday, admitted he has not seen his on-screen brother Nicholas Lyndhurst in the recent reboot of US comedy Frasier but added: “I’m sure he will have done a great job.”

The Del Boy actor recently filmed a BBC2 series with The Repair Shop’s Jay Blades called the Touring Toolshed.

He told the Sunday Times he loves escaping to his shed in Buckinghamshire for a spot of tinkering. He said of Jay: “We’re on the same page when it comes to restoration and all things creative.

“When I used to restore motorbikes I’d spend an awful lot of time in my shed polishing and fixing. I have a 1950s pinball machine that needs restoring, so that will be my next project.”

David said he likes the peace of fixing things and sees it as a legacy of the “waste not, want not” generation.

Born in Edmonton, North London, he trained as an electrician but gave it up after six years to pursue acting.

After his first TV role in the ITV soap Crossroads in 1964, he made his name in 1976 alongside Ronnie Barker in Open All Hours. But he is best known for playing Del Trotter in BBC classic Only Fools and Horses.

He has also starred in The Darling Buds of May and A Touch of Frost.

He lives with his wife Gill and daughter Sophie and has another daughter, Abi, from a previous relationship.
