A MAN has been accused of violent disorder and producing a steel-handled brush as a weapon when he allegedly retaliated to his father being fatally injured in a shooting.

Gunman Tristan Sherry, 26, died of blunt force trauma to the head after he shot Jason Hennessy Snr at Browne’s Steakhouse in Blanchardstown, Dublin.

Mr Hennessy, 48, had been having dinner with family and friends when he was attacked on Christmas Eve and died 11 days later in hospital.

His son Brandon Hennessy, 20, of Sheephill Avenue, Dublin 15, was arrested on Sunday, charged and appeared before Judge Gerard Jones at Blanchardstown District Court yesterday.

He is accused of engaging in violent disorder by using or threatening to use violence with six others, which would cause another person present to fear for their safety.

Hennessy is also charged with producing a commercial dustpan and brush with a steel handle capable of inflicting serious injury during the course of an offence of violent disorder.

Garda Alan Murphy told the court the accused “made no comment” when charged at 8.54 pm on Sunday.

Defence solicitor Simon Fleming said there was no objection to bail subject to conditions, but he asked they not be read aloud during the brief hearing.

He added the terms had been agreed upon with Garda Murphy.

Judge Jones asked what was alleged, and the Garda Murphy said there was an incident in Browne’s Steakhouse, and “this male was involved with a number of other males”.

Mr Fleming added: “His father was murdered and it is alleged he retaliated against the person who did the murder.”

Judge Jones imposed the conditions sought and remanded the accused on bail to appear again on March 12 for directions from the DPP.

He also granted Hennessy legal aid after noting he was not working. The accused, dressed in a navy and green tracksuit, has not indicated a plea.

Last week, gardai charged a 17-yearold boy, who cannot be named, with engaging in violent disorder in the restaurant at the time of the shooting.

Jonas Kabangu, 18, was also charged earlier with engaging in violent disorder on December 24 at the steakhouse.

His address cannot be reported due to security concerns. Earlier this month, he was granted bail pending directions from the DPP.

Four other co-defendants charged are in custody on remand. David Amah, 18, of Hazel Grove, Portrane Road, Donabate, North Dublin, and Michael Andrecut, 22, from Sheephill Avenue in the west of the city and a 17-year-old boy have been charged with murder.

Wayne Deegan, 25, of Linnetsfield Avenue, Phibblestown, Dublin 15, was charged with producing a knife as a weapon during an offence, assault causing harm to Sherry, and violent disorder at the steakhouse.
