THE young girl seriously injured in a stabbing at Dublin’s Parnell Square is back in intensive care following a “setback”.

The five-year-old was injured in an incident outside a school in the north inner city on November 23.

Two other young children and a female care worker were also injured.

In an update yesterday, from the youngster’s mum on a Gofundme page called Barrog do Chailin Beag, read: “Just a quick update. We had a bit of a setback and are currently in the ICU once more.

“Bumps in the road, particularly this long one, are to be expected.” However, she said they are “still positive and hoping to get back on the ward. Fingers crossed”.

At the end of December, the little girl made progress and was moved out of the paediatrics intensive care unit and into a ward. And at the beginning of January she entered what her mother called the third phase of her recovery, which she described as “the longest as she will relearn everything as a result of her injury”. The fundraising page, set up by a friend of the child’s family to assist them, has raised more than €70,000.

The stabbing sparked riots in the centre of the capital during which public transport and Garda vehicles were extensively damaged and shops looted.

A man, 50, has since appeared in court charged in connection with the stabbings at Parnell Square.

Riad Bouchaker, of no fixed abode, has been charged with attempted murder of the three children and with assault causing serious harm to the woman.

He is also charged with three counts of assault causing harm and the possession or production of a 36cm kitchen knife.
