SIMMS LATE SHOW KEEPS CITY IN HUNT

-

Coventry City 2 Bristol City 2

ELLIS SIMMS’ fourth goal of the season helped play-off hopefuls Coventry earn a late point at home to Bristol City and kept them in the hunt for a chance to go up.

Simms came off the bench to equalise on 86 minutes with a tap-in to extend Coventry’s unbeaten run in the league to 10 matches.

Bristol City looked to have won the game three minutes earlier when

Nahki Wells delightfully curled a low shot into the bottom-right corner from 15-yards out.

That came after the Sky Blues took the lead on 27 minutes when Tatsuhiro Sakamoto’s low shot from the right-hand side of the penalty area trickled into the bottom-left corner of the Sky Blues’ net.

But the Robins drew level at the end of the first half as Taylor Gardnerhickman’s cross from the left was flicked home by the head of Rob Dickie (above) with a huge helping hand from the post.

Chances were at a premium in the first half as both Jason Knight and Gardmer-hickman saw decent efforts saved by Sky Blues keeper Bradley Collins.

Coventry’s only other chance of note in the first half came when Kasey Palmer was denied by Max O’leary not long after Sakamoto (left) had given the home side the early advantage.

Sky Blues midfielder Callum O’hare fired a halfvolley well over the crossbar early in the second half.

Then Bristol sub Ross Mccrorie sent a similar shot over the top at the other end.

And after Wells and Simms had provided the late drama, Collins made a stunning reflex save at the death to deny Bristol the points.
