A TOP GUNN

Former Norwich keeper backs Idah to be a success at Celtic

LOAN DEAL.. ADA BHOY

BRYAN GUNN built a career around trying to keep the ball out of the back of his net.

These days, he spends Saturdays watching son Angus doing the same thing in a Norwich City shirt.

So it’s safe to say he knows a natural-born goalscorer when he sees one.

Which is why the former Scotland keeper was caught on the hop when the story broke that Celtic hope to snap up Adam Idah from the Carrow Road club before the January transfer window shuts down for business.

And not least because it was only two months ago when he watched Idah come back from injury to net the late goal which kept under-fire Norwich boss David Wagner in a job over Christmas.

Gunn (right) – who enjoys hero status at the

English Championship club – admitted the locals won’t be pleased to see

Idah move on if a deal is concluded ahead of tonight’s deadline.

But he backed the

22-year-old Irish frontman to fill his boots in

Glasgow’s east end – and perhaps even tip the balance in Celtic’s favour as this season’s title race goes down to the wire.

Gunn said: “From Norwich’s point of view, he has a good ratio of goals per chance. The problem is, he’s not really had a lot of scoring chances.

“Whereas, if he’s playing in a fully firing Celtic team, I’d imagine there are going to be lots of chances being made and they are looking for someone to finish them off in the box.

“His conversion rate is impressive given the amount of chances he’s been getting. But if he gets more chances then who knows? That’s the million dollar question.

“He’s not been getting those opportunities at Norwich or maybe coming on later in games when the team has been seeing games out or whatever.

“But if he gets them at Celtic – and I’m sure he will – they’re getting themselves a young player who can certainly add to their goal tally. And that could make the difference between them and Rangers in the race to the title.”
