Sophie son can ‘feel free again in Ireland’

Bailey death means ‘game over’ in case

THE son of murdered Sophie Toscan du Plantier has told how the death of Ian Bailey means it is “game over” in the case.

Pierre-louis Baudey-vignaud, 42, said he now feels “free again in Ireland” after the chief suspect in the killing died of a heart attack while out walking two weeks ago.

The Frenchman told Patrick Kielty on last night’s Late Late Show he found out about Bailey’s death when he began to receive texts and calls from the media.

He also revealed he has not yet broken the news of his death to Sophie’s parents, Georges and Marguerite Buoniol, for fear it might kill them.

He said: “They are not in very good health now. So we didn’t say it to them, because my grandfather was in the hospital. I’m very frightened that this news will give them peace and they will pass away.”

Businessman Pierre-louis visits his dead mother’s “paradise” holiday home in west Cork several times a year with his two children.

He said he had seen Bailey three times during his trips to Schull. The first two occasions, the English journalist did not recognise him.

Pierre-louis added: “The last time I was with my kids in Schull harbour having tea and an ice cream and I felt a look at me. I saw someone looking at me with a dark look, with no empathy, nothing. Like a devil.

“I felt so much violence in this look. That was not easy for me, to go back in this house in this beautiful village. The killer took my mother’s life and I always thought he has no right to take my life and my freedom.”

Bailey denied killing Sophie and the Supreme Court here refused to extradite him on the basis of the initial flawed Garda investigation. But Pierre-louise said he has no doubts over his guilt, adding: “I’m 100% sure. Ian Bailey was a convicted murderer in Paris.” He is still hopeful he can be deemed a

murderer under the Irish legal system.
