Nicola’s back in Bridgerton
DERRY Girls star Nicola Coughlan has whipped Bridgerton fans into a frenzy of excitement as she features in a newly-released clip from the upcoming third series of the hit Netflix period drama.
The 37-year-old Irish actress plays Penelope Featherington, and also voices the Lady Whistledown character, on the hit period drama.
The upcoming third season will focus on her character and her blossoming romance with Colin Bridgerton, played by 30-year-old British actor Luke Newton.
Galwegian Coughlan’s character has been besotted with her pal Bridgerton since the show started.
In the promo clip, fans are told: “It would seem Miss Featherington has spent plenty of time studying
the eyes of Mr Bridgerton. One can only question what will ever come of it...”
According to producers, Penelope “has given up on her longheld crush... after hearing his disparaging words about her last season.” However, “she has decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters.”
Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels and is disheartened to realise that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder.
Offering to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband, he soon must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly.
Series three of Bridgerton will be broadcast in two parts, with the first premiering on May 16 followed by the second on June 13.
