THE sister of horror crash victim Daryl Culbert said she could have “never asked for a better brother” as he and pal Katie Graham are laid to rest today.
Katie, 19, will be buried this morning following funeral Mass in Arles, Co Laois, with the funeral of Daryl, 21, taking place in the afternoon in Kiltegan, Co Wicklow.
The pair died along with Michael Kelly, 25, when the red Lexus they were travelling in collided with a tree and burst into flames last Wednesday night.
Michael’s funeral is to take place in Hacketstown, Co Carlow, tomorrow morning. He will be laid to rest with his grandparents in Hacketstown cemetery.
Paying tribute to her brother ahead of today’s service, Chloe Culbert said: “Miss you so much Daryl. It will never be the same without you. I could never have asked for a better brother than you. Rest easy Daryl.”
The families and friends of the deceased and the wider community in Co Carlow are still in shock after the horror crash.
It is understood the Lexus car they were travelling in skidded after heavy rain in the townland of Leagh between Graiguenaspiddoge and Kellistown around 5km from Carlow town at around 11.30pm on Wednesday.
A fourth occupant of the car, Nathan Kelly, who is in his 20s and from Ballinabranagh, Co Carlow, was seriously injured.
He was rushed by paramedics to St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny.
He was later transferred to the Mater in Dublin where he is being treated for his injuries.
The friends were heading in the direction of Carlow town as it is understood they were travelling to the Circle K garage in Rathcrogue where other car enthusiasts sometimes meet.
An online Book of Condolence has been set-up on the Facebook page, It’s All About Carlow, with hundreds of people already leaving messages.
Gardai continue to appeal for information.
Supt Anthony Farrell, who has 25 years of service, described the accident as one of the “most severe I’ve attended, it was really, really traumatic”.
It will never be the same without you
