ANDY HAS A GRAND PLAN

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY

ANDY FARRELL is turning his sights to making Grand Slam history as he describes his Ireland side as “hungry” to achieve more.

Ireland are now odds-on favourites to become the first team in the Six Nations era – and the first in the championship since France in 1998 – to win back-to-back Grand Slams.

Farrell’s men have Italy up next at home on Sunday after the Azzurri came close to beating England in Rome.

“We want to be in it for the last week but internally we’re hungry to be as good as we possibly can be,” declared Farrell (right), who will take time to decide if he will freshen up his side next weekend.

“In reality, it’s nice to get the victory and it being a nine-day turnaround now, it means that the bank holiday can be a little sweeter for us.

“We meet back up on Monday night because we’ve been away for 12 days, away from the families.

“That will be good for us but in reality it’s one win. It’s one win out of one and we’ve got to be on to the next one.”

Ireland’s 38-17 victory at the Stade Velodrome was their biggest ever in France.

It was achieved with a rookie No.10 in Jack Crowley and two Six Nations debutants in man of the match Joe Mccarthy and try scorer Calvin Nash.

Farrell (right) added: “It’s not won or lost but it’s about building on this.

“We tend to be pretty harsh on our performances that we’ve won because we’re able to do that and make some good points so hopefully we’re able to get better because of that.

“But the feelgood factor of a victory like that, it’s a special victory, it definitely is. And it’s there to be celebrated, that’s for sure.”
