WILES WANTS TERRIERS TO PUT BITE ON

HUDDERSFIELD 4 SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 0 Championship

- BY ARINDAM REJ

BEN WILES urged Huddersfield to keep going for the jugular after the midfielder secured bragging rights over his Sheffield Wednesday-supporting friends and family.

Owls fans have a right to be shocked and angry after their collapse under pressure in a big game at the bottom.

The stunning result will make the vacant Huddersfield manager’s job more attractive for candidates – and Wiles wants to see more of the style on show here.

Caretaker manager Jon Worthington let his Terriers players off the leash after axed boss Darren Moore was criticised for conservative tactics.

South Yorkshire-born Wiles (above) said: “When the first goal has gone in, we’ve previously been a bit reserved and not used the momentum. Here we’ve used the momentum from the first goal and carried on.

“We’ve got some talent in this team, some individual brilliance. We need to believe more in ourselves.

“I’ve got friends and family on the Sheffield Wednesday side of things, so it’s nice to have an impact.”

Worthington was celebrating after goals from Matty Pearson, Sorba Thomas and a double from Josh Koroma. The Terriers stay out of the drop zone, while second-from-bottom Wednesday blew a chance to cut the gap behind them to two points, and instead went eight points adrift.

Asked about the need for stability at Huddersfield, Worthington said: “I think that’s what all clubs are striving for, aren’t they? It’s not easy.”

Wednesday defender Kristian Pedersen was thrown into the Owls starting line-up, having just signed on loan from Swansea, and had a tough afternoon.

Wednesday boss Danny Rohl admitted it reflected the squad’s current lack of depth.

He said: “To go straight to 100 percent is always difficult. This is where we are. It’s not easy.

“Players are tired. But I am not looking for excuses.”
