Also yesterday, the funeral of Daryl took place in Kiltegan, Co Wicklow.
Tearful mourners packed into St Peter’s Church and lined the entrance.
Chief mourners included his heartbroken parents Trevor and Heather, sisters Chloe and Amy, grandmother Joan, grandad Albert.
Daryl’s uncles Nigel, Ivan, James, Philip and David, aunts Janet, Alison, Deirdre, Nicola and Carolyn, cousins, neighbours and friends also attended.
Dad Trevor told mourners: “Everybody who knew Daryl knew he was a quiet spoken chap with a cheeky grin and a lovable glint in his eye and you couldn’t but love him.
“Daryl is our first born, big brother of Chloe and Amy and grew up here in Kiltegan and went to the primary school just next door.
“He then went on to board in Kilkenny college which he thoroughly enjoyed and made many wonderful friends.
“He was a trainee mechanic which he started in my garage from an early age.
“He was an accomplished Autograss and Crosskart driver. This was a passion we both shared and developed an unbreakable bond. We would spend endless hours in the workshop preparing his car. Daryl won many events and was awarded All-ireland Junior Autograss Champion and driver of the year on two occasions and progressed onto Crosskart driving where his results continued to be outstanding.
“This is a very difficult time for not just our family but for the families of Katie, Michael and Nathan. They are all in our thoughts and prayers.”
Daryl was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery of St Peter’s Church.
Michael’s funeral is to take place today at 1pm at St Brigid’s Church, Hacketstown, Co Carlow.
The red Lexus car the friends were travelling in hit a tree on the N80 between Graiguespiddoge and Kellistown near Carlow town last Wednesday.
A fourth passenger in the car Nathan Kelly, in his 20s, from Ballinabranagh, Co Carlow, was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
