Garda probe after man’s body found
GARDAI are set to launch a murder probe after the body of a man was found – just 400 metres from where his brother was stabbed to death five years ago.
The Irish Mirror has confirmed that Michael Foley, 61, suffered serious injuries to his head, neck and upper body and detectives believe he suffered an attack in his home in Macroom, Co Cork.
His body was found at his home in the Anville development in the town centre early yesterday – but there are fears he may have lain dead for several days.
A source said last night: “The neighbours had not seen him for a while.”
It’s understood he was found in a pool of his own blood in a room in the house when a care worker called in to him yesterday morning.

State Pathologist Professor Margot Bolster was carrying out an initial assessment at the scene last night before a full postmortem is set to take place in Cork city later today – but sources expect a murder investigation to be launched.
One said: “It is unlikely to be an accidental death.”
It’s also understood there was no sign of a break-in at his home at the sheltered housing accommodation at Barret Place – and officers suspect he let his killer in.
The area was sealed off last night as gardai searched the area for clues.
A spokesman said: “Any person with any information that can assist gardai with this investigation are asked to contact Macroom Garda station on 026 20590, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
The Irish Mirror has learned that is the second tragedy to hit the Foley family – after the victim’s brother Timmy was stabbed to death in the two in October 2018.
The 44-year-old died after he was stabbed 28 times at his home at Dan Corkery Place in the town. His ex-wife Rita O’driscoll was convicted of his murder in late 2020 at the Central Criminal Court – and lost her appeal in 2022.
