Strictly movie time

-

A FILM based on a Strictly Come Dancing professional’s life is going into production.

Star Johannes Radebe’s memoir Jojo: Finally Home is being adapted as a family film, complete with musical numbers choreographed by the man himself.

According to showbiz site Deadline, the film will not be a full-on musical, but it will be “packed with heart, great music, wonderful costumes and big dance numbers”. It has a working title of Finally Home.

Johannes has appeared on Strictly since 2018 and came second with Bake Off star John Whaite in 2021.

Before that he performed on the South African version of the show.

Last year, he released the bestselling book telling his life story, beginning in the township of Zamdela, where he recalled playing with Barbie dolls.

Johannes said: “Growing up gay in the townships of South Africa was not an easy ride. But there were so many good things about my life there, and it has made me the person I am today.”

The film goes on to tell of his rise to fame and Johannes added: “I never imagined my story would end up on the big screen, so I am greatly appreciative of this opportunity.”

He said he would be working closely with the Oscar-nominated South African producers Helena Spring Films, who are adapting his story.

Strictly’s Layton Williams

is using his newfound dance skills to model the new Red Nose

Day T-shirts, which feature

Aardman’s Wallace and Gromit characters.

The tees, available from TK Maxx in partnership with Comic Relief, are in a range that also includes aprons, notebooks mugs and totes.
