They are America’s Posh and Becks... & Chiefs’ Kelce is ‘living the dream’ sharing spotlight with megastar Swift
IT takes a lot to upstage Travis Kelce, especially in a Super Bowl week.
So his girlfriend breaking records at the Grammys has given the Kansas City Chiefs tight end a challenge he has not been used to during his legendary career.
Taylor Swift (above right) and Kelce – America’s Posh and Becks – have dominated the sports and entertainment landscape here since September.
She will play live in Japan later this week and aims to fly back in time to see him try to add a third Super Bowl to his already-glittering career but the 34-year-old is taking it all in his stride.
“What a time to be alive, baby. I’m living the dream,” Kelce (above) said of the goldfish bowl his life has become. “You can’t put any more pressure on me than I put on myself. It’s just the heart of a competitor.
“But she has definitely brought a lot of new faces to the game and it’s been fun to experience that.
“She seems to be enjoying the games. She’s part of Chiefs Kingdom right now. It’s fun seeing her enjoy the game of football, knowing that it’s new to her life.”
While collecting her fourth Album of the Year Grammy last Sunday, Swift revealed a new one is due, something that was not a surprise to Kelce.
“She’s unbelievable. She’s rewriting the history books herself. I told her I’ll have to hold up my end of the bargain and come home with some hardware too. I have heard some of it [new album] and I can’t wait for her to shake up the world when it drops.”
Kelce and his brother Jason played against each other in last year’s Super Bowl, as the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles. Jason retired last month but Travis is determined to wring every last drop out of his career, including this week’s Super Bowl circus as the Chiefs prepare to face the San Francisco 49ers.
“It’s something that you’ve got to think about. I come into these arenas and I’ve worked my tail off with these guys. I have so much love for this game that I can’t imagine not doing this for as long as I can because I know I’ll miss it when it’s all said and done.
“I can’t put a time-stamp on how long I’ll play but I know I’m loving every single minute coming into work right now.
“You can’t get used to Super Bowl. That’s the excitement of it. You get to be a part of something that’s a oncein-a-lifetime experience.
“We’ve been extremely fortunate to experience it more than just once. It’s never the same, you have to appreciate what it is. It’s nothing but chaos.”
■ THE Philadelphia Eagles will play in Brazil during the opening week of next season as South America hosts its first NFL regular season game.
The game will take place at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo, with the Eagles’ opponents for the Friday night fixture due to be announced shortly before the 2024 schedule release in the spring.
