CHOCOLATE giant Nestle is axing its famous Breakaway bar due to poor sales, adding it to other once- loved products which have been given the chop.
Nestle admitted that fans would be dismayed by the decision but said Breakaway had to go – as did the Yorkie biscuit bar, which is also less popular now.

However it said its ever- popular solid chocolate Yorkie bars are here to stay and promised new products.
A spokeswoman for the firm, which was founded in 1866 and is based in Vevey, on Lake Geneva, said: “We know fans will be disappointed but it’s time for us to say goodbye to Breakaway.
“We have seen a decline in its sales over the past few years and, unfortunately, had to make the difficult decision to discontinue it.
“By saying goodbye to Breakaway, we can f ocus on our best- performing brands, as well as develop exciting new innovations.”
She added: “We have plenty of new products lined up.”
Nestle said one of those new items will be a v a r i a t i o n o n t h e Blue Riband bar – a b i s c u i t c a l l e d Bl u e Riband Hazelnut with a nut f i l ling between the wafers.
Breakaway i s made with whole meal , oat and coconut f lours and was launched in 1970 by Rowntree Mackintosh. It was acquired by Nestle in 1988.
Yorkie biscuit comes in a pack of seven and is a Bourbon biscuit covered with milk chocolate. It is based on the Yorkie bar that has been on our shelves since 1976.
