TURNER ON THE SPOT TO CLINCH UNITED CLASH

- MOTM ZAK VYNER ( BRISTOL CITY)

FOREST booked a fifthround home tie with Manchester United - but how they were made to sweat.

The Premier League side were taken to a penalty shoot- out by Championship outfit Bristol City, who had knocked West Ham out in the previous round, and managed to keep their nerve to win after a 1- 1 draw after extra time.

Keeper Matt Turner reminded boss Nuno Espirito Santo of his talents as his crucial penalty shoot- out save spared Forest’s FA Cup blushes.

The Reds had d struggled against nst Bristol City.

But Turner, who lost his place to new boy Matz Sels, produced a brilliant stop to deny Sam Bell. It was the only missed spot kick as efforts from Morgan Gibbs- White, Callum Hudson- Odoi, Neco Williams and Moussa Niakhate and Taiwo Awoniyi sent Forest through.

Nuno’s men beat United at the City Ground on December 30 but will have to improve on this performance to have any chance of a repeat victory.

Forest, FA Cup winners in 1898 and 1959, started with purpose as Morgan Gibbs- White’s drive was well saved by Max O’leary and Anthony Elanga’s effort deflected wide. And on eight minutes the hosts took the lead.

Ex- Liverpool star

Divock Origi ( below) got his first Forest goal with the final touch on Felipe’s header from Gibbs- White’s corner. City’s response was excellent with Sam Bell denied by Turner following Anis Mehmeti’s run. And they were level on 14 minutes. When Andy King’s shot was pushed onto both post by Turner, Haydon Roberts retrieved the ball and former Derby man Jason Knight netted.

City pressed for a second with Turner, who has lost his Premier League place, the bus busier of the ke keepers.

At the other end Origi headed wide f from Gonzalo M Montiel’s cross whi while Felipe nodded over from Danilo’s corner.

But it was Liam Manning’s men who nearly took the lead on the stroke of half- time with Tommy Conway denied while Mehmeti was also foiled by Turner.

Forest are just two points above the drop zone. And, on this showing, relegation is a real danger..

They struggled to fashion decent chances until late in the game. NOTTINGHAM FOREST: Turner 7; Omobamidele 6, Felipe 7, Niakhate 6; Montiel 6 ( Gardner 90), Kouyate 6 ( Awoniyi 64, 6), Danilo 6, Toffolo 6 ( Tavares 75); Elanga 7 ( Hudson- Odoi 64, 6),
