GERS ACE A LUCKY MAN SAYS MILLER

- BY BLAIR MEIKLE

KENNY MILLER reckons Connor Goldson was a lucky man to stay on the pitch during Rangers’ win over

Ayr United in the Scottish Cup on Saturday after an “awful” tackle.

The Light Blues centre back lunged in on Roy Syla during the Ibrox Scottish Cup clash, his foot going over the ball and catching the midfielder on the lower shin.

The Goldson tackle was one that seemed to go under the radar but it didn’t escape Miller’s attention when he was poring over the game for BBC’S Sportscene.

The former Gers star said: “He overruns it and and there is a lunge, there is no doubt about it. There is definite contact there. When you slow it down, it looks awful.”

Meanwhile, Philippe Clement (left) bristled when it was put to him that that tweaks to the Rangers team may have impacted their performance.

The Belgian made seven changes . and pundit Stephen Craigan felt Gers’ “fluency and rhythm” may have been impacted by the several changes made going into the game.

But Clement was prickly when the former Motherwell defender suggested that to him.

Craigan asked: “Is it difficult sometimes when you make as many changes as you did to keep the fluency and rhythm within the team?”

The Gers boss immediately flipped the question and said: “Did you have the feeling that it changed things?”

Craigan responded: “Well, just after half time in particular it went a little bit flat so you then make substitutions to inject the energy back into the team.”

Clement went on: “So it was more with putting new players fresh in that we could get new energy and that is a positive thing - that everybody is in the story, everybody knows what to do in each position even when they play in another position they know what to do and the machine goes.

“Whoever is playing, whoever has to do that job they do the job and that is what we need the next couple of months because we are ambitious.”
