LEICESTER are chasing a record points haul but Ricardo Pereira warned his team-mates: “Take it slow!”

Right-back Pereira (above) scored the goal of the match in the 55th minute, and that was decisive in keeping the Foxes 11 points clear of second-placed Southampton.

Now City are on 75 points with 15 games to go – well-placed to overhaul Reading’s all-time best of 106 in the 2005-06 Championship season.

They look odds-on to make it to 78 points at home to struggling Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow, but Pereira said: “It’s really good, but we need to take it slow.

“We still have 15 games, so there’s a lot to play. We cannot have complacency and think it’s done. Fifteen games is a lot.”

His caution was fuelled by the way Watford put his team under the cosh after Emmanuel Dennis struck for the Hornets in the 63rd minute.

Until then, the leaders had looked comfortable at 2-0 thanks to Pereira’s well-worked strike and Patson Daka’s 10th-minute penalty awarded after Giorgi Chakvetadze appeared to trip Dennis Praet.

Watford substitute Dennis pounced on Harry Winks’ dreadful pass out of defence and clearly had the Foxes on the run.

But the 26-year-old forward, back at Vicarage Road on loan from Nottingham Forest, still cannot get a start with the Hornets.

While Dennis looked sharp as he delighted home fans by firing past Foxes keeper Mads Hermansen, Watford boss

Valerien Ismael insists he is still not fit enough to start at Norwich tomorrow.

Ismael said: “We don’t have him at 100 percent. We have to manage him. It was excellent that he stayed at Watford all week to build up his fitness while we had a game at Southampton.

“Now we see him heading in the right direction. The goal will give him and us a lot of confidence.”
