‘WE NEED FANS RIGHT BEHIND US IN ULTIMATE TEST’

-

FROM SIMON MULLOCK in Copenhagen COPENHAGEN boss Jacob Neestrup says his team face the ultimate Champions League test tomorrow.

The Danish underdogs have not played a competitive game in the 63 days since beating Galatasaray to claim a place in the last 16, and Neestrup will be blooding two new players against Pep Guardiola’s Treble winners.

But Copenhagen came through a group that also included Bayern Munich and Manchester United, and Neestrup has called on fans to turn the Parken Stadium into a cauldron to help them land a first-leg shock.

Neestrup (left) said: “Of course it would be an advantage if we had been in full flow, but the content of our training and training matches has been excellent and we’re in a good place.

“It is the ultimate test. For me, City have been the best team in Europe for a long time. But all teams have strengths and weaknesses and there’s always a chance.

“We know how good the team we are playing against is. But like Bayern, Galatasaray and Manchester United, they only have two arms and two feet.

“The perfect result would be a win. A good result would be a draw. But we know that you might even deliver a perfect performance and you still might not reach the ultimate success. But the Parken can help us. I always think European nights in the Parken are something special and I know our fans can be a difference.

“I have no doubt that it will be the same tomorrow. This will be huge. It is a great stadium to play in.

“I have reminded the players we were only given a small chance to pass through a group with Galatasaray, Manchester United and Bayern but we did it.”
