C-3PO star’s souvenir has sales tag of €1m

A C-3PO head from the Star Wars movie Return of the Jedi is expected to fetch close to €1million at auction in the US.
The estimated sales tag of nearly €940,000 for the light-up memento from the 1983 film comes a year after another C-3PO head, used in the first Star Wars film from 1977, sold for €807.000 in the UK.
Both props belonged to actor Anthony Daniels, 77, who played the droid.
He said: “After the huge success of the sale of my collection in London, I’m so pleased that Propstore will offer the remainder of my treasures in Los Angeles.
“I hope these wonderful pieces of memorabilia find new homes where they will be displayed, respected and enjoyed by fans, who have a chance to own a genuine piece of Star Wars history.”
The head will be sold alongside memorabilia from other Hollywood hits.
Items include the yellow dress worn by Olivia Newton John as Sandy Olsson in 1978 film Grease, a Freddy Krueger mask from 1989 horror movie A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child and a jacket worn by stuntman Evel Knievel.
Vito Corleone’s jacket in The Godfather Part II is also being auctioned, along with Wolverine’s leather jacket and shirt from 2000’s X-men and a Charlie Chaplin jacket from The Great Dictator in 1940.
A jacket from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom could fetch €376,000.
Brandon Alinger, Propstore chief operations officer, said: “The auction has a strong showing of the usual crowd favourites titles.”
The auction of more than 1,700 lots will be held from March 12 to 14.
