“I didn’t have any problems with that in these four months – that’s the first time in a team I didn’t have to smack somebody who is not focused or not motivated.

“It’s a really important thing but they all feel they are in a really special story and it can be a really special one.”

Celtic’s latest slip-up at home to Kilmarnock heaped fresh pressure and expectation on the Ibrox men as they made the drive up the A9 to Mcdiarmid.

But there was no sign of nerves as they swatted Craig Levein’s St Johnstone with a sensational Mohamed

Diomande strike and two late James Tavernier penalties.

“We’re really busy with [blanking out the expectation and noise] because it’s of no use,” said Clement.

“We’re just focused on ourselves and we will continue in that way in the next weeks and months.

“It’s the only way to be successful - and the players understand that really well.

Clement has seen his side spill just five points in the 18 Premiership games he’s overseen.

But he’s vowed to continue placing demands on his men after watching them take command of a the title race for the first time since February 2022. “We are not looking at [staying top of the table],” he said.

“Our challenge is to be better every week better, better every month. Not every game you can be better – that’s impossible – but we try to do that, to develop as individuals, as a team.

I want to see an ambitious team that wants to become better We’re not looking at others, just at ourselves.”
