Soap actress tips Paul for Cobbles role
PAUL Mescal laughed off suggestion he could become a soap star after Coronation Street actress Sally Dynevor said she’d love to see him on the series.
Speaking to FM104 earlier in the night, she told listeners she would love to see Mescal star in Weatherfield.
While walking the BAFTA red carpet on Sunday night, the actress who plays Sally in Corrie, said she would love it if the Normal People actor signed up for a cameo role.
But the Kildare native laughed off suggestions he could become a soap star.
“Go on Coronation Street? No,” he said laughing before quickly walking away.
The All Of Us Strangers star missed out of the
Best Supporting Actor award at the BAFTAS this year.
But he opened up about Gladiators II, which is set to be released later this year.
Playing the lead character in Scott’s sequel to his Best Picture winner, Mescal is due to appear as Lucius, son of Maximus’ love Lucilla, with Connie Nielsen returning to her role from the 2000 film.
Being billed as one of the most highly-anticipated movies of the year, Mescal is joined in the stellar ensemble alongside Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn and Derek Jacobi.
Mescal, 28, revealed more information about the movie in an interview while on the BAFTA red carpet.
He said: “Ridley’s doing his editing and everything…it was an absolute honour.
“He is the king, especially in that format, that scale of film… I’m incredibly proud of the work we did together”.
Providing a little more detail on the movie, he addresses Scott’s statement that Mescal’s character will fight baboons in the forthcoming film.
He added: “Well, Ridley’s said that I fight baboons, so I’m not going to get in trouble for that.
“Unless it’s on the cutting room floor.”
