PRISON bosses have launched an investigation after social media videos appear to show a huge stash of smuggled drugs, phones and booze in a jail.

The Irish Mirror has been made aware of three clips that have been uploaded to Tiktok which claim to show off a large quantity of drugs, miniature bottles of alcohol and handsets from Dublin’s

Wheatfield Prison.

The footage – under investigation by the Irish Prison Service’s Operational Support Group – is being treated as legitimate.

It is suspected a prisoner filmed the videos which show packets of suspected drugs, bottles of drink such as Jack Daniels and the phones.

In one the caption “catch us at Wheatfield” is brazenly typed in front of the screen as the person shows off black bags of suspected drugs and bottles of alcohol.

It also has the caption “f*** sippin on hooch.”

A source said: “The videos appear to be legit and are being taken extremely seriously.”

The IPS said: “Prison staff have increased the use of random and intelligence-led cell searches on a daily basis. Our Canine Unit carry out searches around the prisons, including a greater focus on searching deliveries into prisons.

“The IPS continues to engage with gardai to prevent contraband entering our prison and this happens at both local and national level.

“The Operational Support Group work closely with their colleagues in An Garda Siochana on a regular basis and the sharing of intelligence has led to target searches resulting in the seizure of contraband.

“There is a free confidential telephone line [1800 855 717] and text line [086 180 2449] which is operational.

“Prisoners, visitors, staff or members of the public with information on the trafficking of prohibited items into our prisons can pass on that information in the strictest confidence.

“The IPS are committed to strengthening our measures in keeping drugs out of prison and in this regard a new drug strategy was published last November.

“This sets out clear measures to be taken by the IPS to tackle the problem of substance abuse... over the next three years.”
