ASLAN’S new singer Lee Tomkins made his first TV appearance with the band as they performed on Virgin’s Six O’clock Show.

Tomkins, 37, from Glasnevin North Dublin, is a seasoned performer having supported acts such as Bon Jovi, Razorlight and The Coronas throughout his career.

Band members Joe

Jewell, Alan Downey and Billy Mcguinness confirmed earlier this month

Tomkins is the band’s new singer as they prepare for their upcoming comeback tour.

Their appearance on yesterday’s Six O’clock Show was their first performance on television without Christy Dignam, who died last year.

They performed the song Precious from the band’s Here Comes Lucy Jones album which was released in 1997.

Earlier the group said the announcement of their new singer and upcoming tour came with “mixed emotions” as it’s their first tour without Christy.

Christy, was 63 when he died last June 13 after a long illness.

The band said on social media: “After 40 years of playing with our frontman Christy, we absolutely know it’s not the same and never will be but we want to continue playing our music and bringing our music to you.

“This is our way of letting our memories of over four decades live on and keeping our music alive.

“We are looking forward to seeing you again and we welcome Lee Tomkins, who will be singing our Aslan songs and has been a huge support to us in being able to make this happen.

“We, as always, are so grateful for the love and support you have all shown us, through our difficult times and our good times.

“We truly hope we will make you proud and we are looking forward to bringing you some songs that we have never performed live before.”
