Devilish night out makes the nudes

The Pleasure Boys boss defends show as X-rated videos appear online

THE director of entertainment company The Pleasure Boys has defended their act following outrage as videos were shared from a recent show.

On Saturday, the troupe took their UK and Ireland XXL Tour to The Devenish Complex in the Finaghy area of west Belfast.

Footage from the show has been shared extensively across social media, showing the performers involved fully nude and dancing with revellers.

Other footage from the event showed the male dancers simulating sexual acts with some women in the audience.

The event was priced at £15 a ticket and advertised as a Valentine’s Weekend Special with The Devenish describing it as “a night filled with exciting thrills perfect for a girls night out”.

Concerns have been raised following videos being shared on social media, with claims that some women pictured have been singled out.

There have also been complaints that some of those attending the event did not know in advance it would feature full nudity.

But the owner and director of Pleasure Boys John Woodward has defended the act.

He said those in attendance should have researched the act before buying a ticket.

He added they have only received such a strong reaction to the event in Northern Ireland.

BLOWN UP

Mr Woodward told

Nolan Show: “I think this has been blown up a lot more over here because people are not quite used to what our show is.

“We are a fully nude male revue show.

“You’re just getting those who turn up a bit of release, a bit of entertainment, something they don’t get anywhere else.

“It’s a special event, it’s not something you’ll see just walking down the street.

“You pay for a ticket for one of our shows and there’s dancing, fire, acrobatics and the nudity which is the ending.

“There was absolutely no sexual contact during the show.

“Everything we do, it’s crowd participation and everything is simulated.

“There’s no sort of sexual acts going on during the show.”

As for the legalities of the event, Mr Woodward said in the UK venues can apply for a special events license which covers such a performance, with venues able to apply for

12 of these licenses a year.

He explained:

“Providing there’s no sexual activity I can’t see anything in the law about it.

“If there’s contact, we try to move away from that.”

My friend did not know it was going to feature full nudity ERIN A CALLER TO THE NOLAN SHOW YESTERDAY

One caller to the Nolan Show, Erin from Belfast, said her friend attended but she didn’t know it would feature full nudity. She told listeners: “The women who came to this show didn’t know it was going to be fully naked men..

“It would be like Magic Mike, not fully naked.

“My friends were shocked but they all had a good night. “Videos have surfaced from the end of the night and have been put on social media.”

Another caller Brian from Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, called for such events to be banned.

He said: “I think if I was a business owner in Belfast I’d be content not to have this so called ‘advertising’.

“I think it is completely degrading for young men who have to be a certain way in today’s society.

“It’s one of the most trashy and disgusting things I’ve heard, I would have it banned.”

However, some callers defended the event.

Paddy in Belfast said: “I don’t see any harm in it. Those fellas are professional.

“They’re paid for the performance and from what I’ve seen, fair play to them, they put on a good show.

“It’s the talk of the town and what an advertisement for them.”

The Devenish Bar has been contacted by the Daily Mirror for a comment. Belfast City Council, which is in charge of entertainment licensing matters, said it is investigating the event.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: “Council is currently investigating the event at the Devenish Bar over the weekend.

“As this is subject to an ongoing investigation, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.”
