‘Harry stalker sent him 8,000 cards in a month’
Brazilian, 35, had ‘sexual urges’
A WOMAN accused of stalking Harry Styles sent him 8,000 cards in less than a month, a court heard.
Myra Carvalho, 35, sent the star handwritten letters while in the UK as well as ordering online cards, which were sent to his address, it was claimed.
The Brazilian had been staying at a backpacker hostel in Earls Court, West London, court documents show, having been in the UK since December.
Of the 8,000 cards sent, some were wedding cards, prosecutors said.
Two letters were hand-delivered to the former One Direction star’s address.
Yesterday the court also heard Carvalho’s family did not know she had travelled to the UK.
The accused, who has a partner at home in Brazil, had left without her parents’ knowledge and expressed “sexual urges” towards the pop superstar, 30, it was claimed.
Both Carvalho’s parents attended the plea and trial preparation hearing at Harrow crown court, sitting at Hendon magistrates court in North London.
They wept as they saw their daughter appear via videolink from HMP Bronzefield in Surrey. Wearing a black coat and gloves, the defendant confirmed her name but did not indicate a plea.
Her barrister Clementine Simon told the court her client’s doctor in Brazil believed she was suffering from a “manic episode” and questioned if she was fit to enter a plea.
A hearing in April will determine if the charges will be dismissed as holding insufficient evidence, while a provisional trial date was set for July.
Judge Karim Ezzat sent her case to be heard at the same court on April 19. The defendant was later remanded in custody. She is accused of stalking involving serious alarm or distress and is being assessed to determine if she is fit to plea.
Styles was seen watching Luton Town’s Premier League defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.
