TRIBUTES have been paid after a woman who was six months pregnant died at the scene of a road crash.
The collision happened on the Boa Island Road in Belleek, Co Fermanagh, on Monday and involved a car and three pedestrians.
The PSNI named the woman who died as Valeria Amorim, 28, from the Belleek area.
A spokesperson said: “At approximately 8pm police received a report of a road traffic collision involving a car and three pedestrians. Two other people were tended to by colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
“A woman, aged in her 30s, was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody.
“Following the tragic death of Valeria and her unborn child, the Police Service’s Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for information and witnesses.”
MLA Jemma Dolan appealed for anyone with dashcam footage to contact police.
She added: “Belleek is a very close community and any news like this affects the village and surrounding areas greatly.”
UUP Erne West councillor Mark Ovens said the entire village had been left stunned.
He added: “Every death on our roads is a tragedy but the loss of a young mum and her unborn child in such horrific circumstances is particularly heartbreaking.”
Life After, the Northern Ireland charity that provides support services to family and friends of those who have lost their lives through a road traffic collision, expressed their sympathy.
They posted on Facebook: “Could everyone please keep the Amorim family in your thoughts and prayers as they come to terms with this traumatic event.”
