Footballer Wayne applied to study degree at university

WAYNE Rooney is thinking about a career in law as he revealed he wanted to do a legal degree at university.

The ex-england star said he applied to study law at Nottingham University before taking the manager’s job at DC United in Washington, US, in 2018.

Rooney, who scored 253 goals for Manchester United, also admitted that his interest in the subject was reignited by his wife Coleen’s libel battle with Rebekah Vardy in 2022.

During the infamous Wagatha Christie showdown, Wayne, 38, boasted that he told her barristers what questions they should ask in the courtroom.

Speaking to The Overlap podcast, he said: “I did apply – it was to Nottingham University – I applied to go in and try and study, but then I did go away.”

The 38-year-old joked: “I want to do it to get one of those wigs on!” After being sacked as the boss by Birmingham City FC at the start of this year, Wayne admitted he is now focusing on developing his experience as a football manager.

But he admitted that the law was something that he has always been interested in and he has previously said it is something he “probably will revisit”. Addressing his interest in the legal system, he added: “It’s something that I’ve always watched and looked at as well.

“When Coleen had the court case with Rebekah Vardy, I was there with the barrister and the lawyers, and I was saying to the barrister, ‘You need to ask this question’.” Coleen won the landmark libel case after publicly accusing the fellow WAG of selling stories to a newspaper from her private Instagram account.

Rebekah, 42, the wife of England and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, was left with a €3.5million legal bill.
