GOLDSON’S 300 BONUS

- BY FRASER WILSON

CONNOR GOLDSON believes Rangers are heading to a different level under Philippe Clement.

The defender (above) celebrated his 300th game in a 5-0 Ibrox trouncing of Hearts as they cemented their table topping status.

It’s now one defeat in 27 games for Clement who has overturned Celtic’s seven point lead at the top in his five months in charge.

And Goldson admitted he’s “really excited” at the thought of where the club is heading thanks to the high demands of their boss.

He said: “I’m really enjoying it. I have said it from the start, the demands that the manager puts on us, not only in games but day by day in training, is the main reason that we’re doing so well.

“He doesn’t let standards drop in any training session.

“He wants us to reach a different level to what we are at. And I think now the boys are really believing that we can.

“You see the football that we are starting to play, the tempo that we are starting to play at. The fitness is getting higher and higher. It is crazy because it has only been four or five months.

“I am really excited about where this team and this club is heading.”

With the pressure on after hitting the summit of the table six days earlier, Rangers produced a statement victory over Hearts as they romped past a side that had gone 12-games unbeaten in all competitions themselves.

A double from Cyriel Dessers to add to goals from January arrivals Mohamed Diomande, Oscar Cortes and Fabio Silva had supporters in dreamland and belting out We Shall Not Be Moved from the second minute of the game. It’s now 10 wins in a row in all competitions for Clement’s side.

But a huge test awaits away at Kilmarnock on Wednesday night. Goldson said: “We’ve got a massive game on Wednesday at a tough place against a team that beat us earlier in the season.

“We know how hard it is to go there so we just need to focus on that and hopefully get another three points.”
