Holy show FASHION

- LARISSA NOLAN news@irishmirror.ie

COMMUNION season is near — a rite of passage for around 60,000 children in Ireland annually.

The First Holy Communion is always a special day – and a big deal – for many Irish families.

But it doesn’t have to be a big spend, with so many department stores offering communion ranges to suit all budgets.

Penneys and TK Maxx all have bargain buys, with prices at Penneys starting at just €18 for dresses and boys’ full suits for €44.

The Dunnes collection – exclusively by

Paul Costelloe – starts from the €100-€150 mark, while those with a bit more to spend can go to Arnotts.

There you can get a special gown like the Isabella bow-belted tiered dress for €360, with matching bolero-style jacket for €70.

Arnotts boys’ three-piece suits are €190 and the store does a range of accessories – so key to the communion outfit.

TK Maxx have a range of elegant dresses for girls from big brand names, starting at €44.99.

It’s all boleros, buttons and bows for the girls this year, with a touch of bohemia and flower fairy style.

Girls can indulge their inner princesses with lots of tiered skirts, beading and covered buttons.

For those who prefer the more relaxed look, there are pretty floral dresses that are perfect for spring.

Boys have almost as much choice, with cords, chinos and tees as well as suits and blazers.

Not so long ago, boys’ options were limited but now there’s minimalist and casual, as well as more formal looks that could be re-worn for weddings or other occasions.

For girls, his range boasts satin, organza and lace, with pearls, pleats and tiered overlay for romantic elegance.
