I won’t start on the boss

IDAH’S READY WHEN NEEDED

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

ADAM IDAH insists he won’t be banging on Brendan Rodgers’ door to demand a start against Dundee.

But the loan star has told his gaffer he’s determined to play his part in Celtic’s Premiership push. Idah was the hero from the bench against Motherwell on Sunday after helping the Hoops roar back from behind to sink the Steelmen in stoppage time.

The borrowed Norwich frontman dragged his side level with a thunderous header before bagging the killer second at the death.

Idah replaced out-of-sorts Kyogo Furuhashi (above) at the interval and turned the game – with fans now calling for the striker to be unleashed from the start against Dundee tomorrow.

But the Republic of Ireland cap said: “Look, regardless if I start or come off the bench, I’m going to do my best. I’ve started three games now and came on in others.

“It’s about getting games and helping the team. That’s what I did on Sunday. It doesn’t matter to me if I start or not. I just want to perform each and every week and hopefully score as many goals as I can.

“I thrive off pressure. That’s what excites me. For a lot of players, that’s what you play football for.

“That pressure gives you that bit of motivation. I know for me, that’s when I play my best.”

Idah was also the late hero at Easter Road last month when his second spot kick of the night sealed a win against Hibs.

The 22-year-old admitted he was thrilled to bag a brace from open play at the weekend and he’s convinced he’s starting to click with the Hoops squad.

Idah said: “It was obviously very pleasing. The two penalties were great but you do want to score from open play.

“To do that on Sunday and the way it went was unbelievable for me and my confidence as a striker. My job is getting goals so I was delighted.

“Was that what I am about? Yeah, that’s what I’ve come here to try to do. I want to score as many goals as I can and help the team.

“The team is helping me by putting balls in the box and making me the reference point. Overall we are working well with each other.”

Idah was delighted with the late thrills at Fir Park and is determined to maintain momentum when Dundee arrive in Glasgow.

He said: “It was a dramatic end. Look, we didn’t perform as well as we wanted in the first half. We knew what we needed to do in the second half and we stuck to the game plan. Happily we came out with the three points and that is what we needed to do.

“I try to do my best to help the team. It’s not just my goals, I think everyone performed in that second half.

“We were a lot more comfortable on the ball, we created a lot more chances. Credit to everyone.”
