ALLIANZ NFL MATCHBOX: DIV 1
Mayo v Roscommon Castlebar, 7.30pm (TG4)
AFTER starting with two wins, Mayo boss Kevin Mcstay (inset) was eyeing up two more points to effectively secure safety and give him some latitude ahead of the Championship, but two games later and he’s still looking for them after defeats in Kerry and Tyrone.
Mayo lost at home to Roscommon in Connacht last year. A repeat would see them leapfrogged by their neighbours and in the thick of a relegation battle.
VERDICT: Mayo
v Galway
Monaghan
Tomorrow, Clones 3.15pm (TG4)
IT’S difficult to overstate the importance of this game in the context of relegation, with the loser most likely to be in Division Two next year, even if there’ll be four more points to play for.
Galway close out their campaign against Dublin and Kerry. Monaghan have an easier run in on paper but have shipped a few hidings now since their opening night win over the Dubs at Croker.
VERDICT: Galway
Derry v Dublin
Celtic Park, 5pm (RTE)
THE All-ireland champions travel to face the in-form team who may emerge as their biggest challengers later in the year.
Derry scored a rousing win at home to the Dubs in Division Two last year to seal promotion and have kicked on since, while Dublin laid down a marker against Kerry last weekend.
Derry may not be ahead of them come summer, but they probably are right now.
VERDICT: Derry
Kerry v Tyrone
Tomorrow, Killarney, 1.15pm (TG4) KILLARNEY has been an unforgiving venue for Tyrone on occasions over the years and the timing of this visit could hardly be much worse, with Kerry on the back of an extremely poor performance against Dublin last Saturday.
If taking a hosing from your main rivals is bad enough, losing at home to Tyrone eight days later would be too much for Jack O’connor’s
(inset) men to stomach.
