Poch tells Jacko: Study videos of Toney... and the classics like Drogba and Bati

BRENTFORD v CHELSEA

Gtech Community Stadium: 3pm

NICOLAS JACKSON has been watching videos of Ivan Toney to help him master the art of goalscoring.

Premier League rookie Jackson has hit 10 goals for Chelsea this season since signing from Villarreal for £32million in the summer.

But on the eve of their clash with Brentford, Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino revealed Toney is one of several forwards the Senegal striker has been studying.

Chelsea boss Poch (right) said: “Jackson loves to watch different strikers and learn.

“He is very humble to listen and to accept when we show him different strikers or when we try to advise him on the game.

“Toney is a great striker, an experienced player, with experience of the Premier League. Now, of course, Jackson is doing well but he is learning. Which strikers do we show him? I think all the strikers in the Premier League are good for him to see.

“And maybe I am showing my age, but also Batistuta, Drogba… Experienced players, amazing players, big players. Hasselbaink… You can learn from them always!”

Pochettino exchanged words with a Chelsea fan who said something which angered Jackson during his side’s 2-0 defeat to Brentford last October.

Asked about the incident, Pochettino replied: “It’s tough. Really tough. For a guy who was 21, arrived from a different country, a different league, that everyone put a responsibility on to score goals. Come on.

“He is doing fantastic for me. I really appreciate the effort he is doing. He is very tough. He is very mature in the way he accepts and deals with that pressure. You can see a player that fights, runs, wants the ball even when he made a mistake.

“Even if the fans are not happy, he will try again, he will never give up. And he is scoring goals.

“In his first season here in England, he is doing well. Better than people maybe think. Much better.”

Chelsea have long been linked with Toney, who remains a transfer target. But Pochettino admits he has little say on who comes or goes at Stamford Bridge. Asked how hard he will push to keep in-form Conor Gallagher, Pochettino said: “I cannot be involved in this. It’s only the club and Conor that can make the deal.”

Pressed on whether he thinks his voice should be the loudest on issues like these, he replied: “No comment. Why not? Because there is nothing to win for me.

“I am the head coach. My job is to coach the team.”
