TEXTOR SLAMS PALACE ULTRAS
CRYSTAL PALACE co-owner John Textor has fired back at the club’s Holmesdale fanatics over their “nonsense” banners, shrugging: “I don’t work for ultras.”
Towards the end of Roy Hodgson’s reign last month, fans unfurled a series of banners protesting against perceived dysfunction in the boardroom.
New boss Oliver Glasner’s 3-0 win against Burnley in his first match dampened the air of mutiny at Selhurst Park.
Now Textor (above), whose Eagle Football Holdings owns a 45 percent stake in Palace, has taken aim at the Holmesdale fans group.
He said: “I read these banners, which are nonsense. I showed up a couple of years ago, I do nothing but support (the club) as one of four members of the board and then I see banners which say ‘Textor we don’t trust you’. I don’t care.
“They don’t need to trust me, I’m not running the club.
“I was drawn to this relationship of club and community. It’s organised fan groups which hijack that relationship.
“I developed a belief that I work for the anonymous fan that I don’t know.
“He or she is 10 years old and they love the club because their father loves the club. I don’t work for the ultras.”
Glasner has Eberechi Eze back in the fold as the Eagles bid to end a 26-year wait for a Premier League victory at Tottenham today.
Will Hughes also rejoins the squad and Glasner hopes to inspire a reversal of fortunes.
He said: ““Ebs is a great player for us, but it’s also important that Will is back – he’s an experienced player.
“We go there with confidence and we go there to take the three points. Maybe it’s time.”
