BE SURE TO TAKE KERR OUT THERE

- BY PAUL O’HEHIR

BRIAN KERR pulled no punches critiquing the Ireland team under Stephen Kenny’s watch.

But John O’shea - who was a member of Kenny’s coaching staff insists he has no beef with it and declared: “That’s what analysis is.’

Interim Ireland boss O’shea has added ex-ireland manager Kerr to his own coaching staff for the upcoming games against Belgium and Switzerland. Kerr is Technical

But asked about Kerr’s criticism of Kenny’s tenure - one that he was involved in as coach - O’shea said: “That’s what analysis is.

“That’s what they are paid to do, to go through what’s happened in the game and that’s just part and parcel of the industry.”

And O’shea suggested the Ireland players won’t have an issue with Kerr being directly involved, as they would know themselves when a performance wasn’t up to scratch.

“My experience of a dressing room - playing or coaching - is you don’t need the analysts on the telly,” added O’shea.

“You’ve got a fair idea from the feeling in the dressing room about what’s after happening.”

O’shea played under Kerr at youth and senior level for Ireland and feels his knowledge will be invaluable this month.

Kerr was Ireland manager between 2003 and 2005 but was frozen out of any role within the FAI, then run by John Delaney.

“The relationship I have with Brian goes back a long time,” said O’shea, who insists Kenny should be fondly remembered for blooding a new generation.

“When I heard Brian’s name, I was like, yes, that sounds right. His knowledge will be invaluable, he’ll be a big boost for everyone involved.”
