THE MARLOW MURDER CLUB Drama, 8pm

From the creator of global hit crime drama Death In Paradise, this new-part drama delves into more small town murder mysteries.

The always-fabulous Samantha Bond stars as retired archaeologist and crossword-setter (see, she loves a puzzle!) Judith Potts, whose peaceful evening in Marlow is shattered when she witnesses the murder of her neighbour.

While enjoying a summer’s evening swimming, she hears shouting and a gunshot.

Swimming as fast as she can, she calls the emergency services, believing that a brutal murder has taken place.

But the local police, led by DS Tanika Malik (Natalie Dew), are reluctant to believe her.

There are other eccentric characters of course. Judith forges an unlikely friendship with vicar’s wife Becks (Cara Horgan) and local dog-walker Suzie (Jo Martin).

The three become amateur sleuths, racing to stop a serial killer in their town.

With vibes of Richard Osman’s novel The Thursday Murder Club, this is thoroughly British and charming whodunit.

WHY PLANES VANISH: THE HUNT FOR MH370 BBC1, 8pm

TEN years after Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 disappeared with 239 people on board, this hardhitting documentary looks for answers.

The tragedy on March 8, 2014, has become the greatest unsolved mystery in aviation.

There were no distress calls or signals when the plane vanished 40 minutes into its flight leaving families of the missing passengers and crew with so many questions never answered.

Jacquita Gonzales, wife of the flight’s steward, Patrick Gomes, says: “We were just waiting for news and they couldn’t tell us anything at all.

“My children were calling me… I said everything was being done to find dad and hopefully bring him home soon.”

A decade later, this film investigates whether new evidence can help solve the mystery and asks what lessons can be learned from the disaster to make aviation safer?

As new evidence emerges of MH370’S possible location through pioneering radio technology, the documentary hears from scientists at the University of Liverpool involved in a major study to verify how viable the technology is, in the hunt for the wreckage.

There are also interviews with relatives of the missing, aviation experts, former Malaysian Airlines employees, and current and former pilots.

The film also rakes over other commercial aviation incidents to try to help them piece together what may have really happened that day in 2014.
