I looked like I’d had slap off wet fish

- THE VIEW FROM THE OCHE

THERE was no UK Open glory – but I am now a meme!

My reaction to Luke Littler’s 170 ‘fishing cast’ celebration against me (above) appears to have captured the imagination of ITV, the newspapers and the darting public as a whole.

I hadn’t seen it from Luke before. I don’t watch a lot of darts when I’m not playing so found it rather amusing.

But I will quickly get sick of seeing the face I pulled (below) if people keep sending it to me on Whatsapp!

I played well against Luke and reeled off – see what I did there – five legs in a row. But it was the start of the game that cost me – it’s hard to come back from 8-2 down. Saying that, if I had won the leg when I was 9-7 behind, I think there might just have been a chance.

I mentioned last week that the UK Open is carnage and so it proved to be, with Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen going out at the first hurdle.

That gave the opportunity to Dimi Van den Bergh to get to the final. He would have been surprised to have been given so many chances by Luke Humphries, but he took them and is once again a major champion.

It will make for some good Premier League games tonight, with Humphries keen to make amends and Price wanting to put that poor performance behind him when they face off in their quarter-final.

MVG appeared to have a worrying shoulder injury which means Rob Cross will fancy his chances in their match-up, and the Asp (Nathan Aspinall) will view his clash with Littler in the same way after winning last week.

Michael Smith and Peter Wright are both desperate for confidence so your guess is as good as mine for their clash. James Wade’s column is sponsored by Elitecompetitions.co.uk – use code WADE25 for 25% off tickets
