ANEL MAY EXIT CLUB CONCEDES WILDER

- BY ROSS HEPPENSTALL

CHRIS WILDER has hinted captain Anel Ahmedhodzic could be sold during a major summer rebuild at Sheffield United.

The Bosnia defender, 24, enjoyed an outstanding debut campaign as the Blades won automatic promotion from the Championship last term.

He was linked with a move to Napoli during the January transfer window and was made captain by Wilder.

Ahmedhodzic (top) was substituted during Monday’s 6-0 home thumping against Arsenal and has been struggling with a hamstring problem, but is set to face Bournemouth today.

Blades boss Wilder said: “Anel’s a good player, but there has been interest in him and there will be interest in him. But I don’t think he should be looking beyond the next game and we’re certainly not.

“I don’t think it’s a reason why we’re getting spanked by Arsenal and Aston Villa – because Anel’s captain – and I thought he was outstanding at Wolves and Luton.

“These are the things that you have to deal with, whether it’s Anel or myself.

“When things are going well, people will say decent things about you to Anel and maybe when they’re not, as captain of the team, he has to take that responsibility on board.” Like many of his team-mates, Ahmedhodzic has struggled at times this season with the Blades having conceded at least five goals in their last four home games.

Wilder (below) admitted: “We’re all hurting and suffering – the supporters, players, management and coaching staff. But Anel had a tight hamstring going into the Arsenal game.

“It’s been an issue over a number of weeks and we’ve had to modify his training, which people don’t see.

“He’s not training for the majority of the week and sometimes we’re having to make physical substitutions with a lot of the boys. “That’s not a great place to be at the moment, but we’re just going to have to deal with it.”

Wilder said that only Jack Robinson could be spared heavy criticism after the Blades’ recent woeful run at Bramall Lane.

He added: “I don’t want selfish players or victims – and there’ll be players thinking, ‘I’m not playing, it’s not my fault’.

“I don’t think any one of the players at the minute, apart from maybe Robbo, can consistently put their hands up and say they deserve to be in the team at the moment.

“This is the biggest test I’ve had as a manager, without a shadow of a doubt.”
