TIGHT TO THE WIRE

It’s shaping up to be one of the closest title races in years between Arsenal, Liverpool and City and Kyle Walker says his side have the know-how to overhaul their Prem rivals

KYLE WALKER insists that Manchester City have the hunger to overcome rivals Liverpool in the title race.

Liverpool and City are involved in a three-horse chase with Arsenal, with bookies changing their odds almost daily. The top three are separated by just one point with only 10 games to go in one of the most exciting finishes in the history of the Premier League.

Arsenal are still seen as the outsiders by the bookies despite a recent run of big-scoring wins.

Liverpool, who have already won the League Cup, are driven by the chance to win four trophies this season – what an an incredible send-off for boss Jurgen Klopp that would be.

But City have the experience and know-how as they chase down a record-breaking fourth consecutive title in their bid to repeat last year’s Treble.

It could go right to the wire but Walker insists that City’s experience and history of winning trophies could be the deciding factor.

City and Liverpool played out an intense draw at Anfield on

Sunday, the second 1-1 between the two sides this season and the second time Liverpool have come from behind.

“This is why this is the best league in the world – players want to come here, play and compete in this league,” said 33-year-old Walker (right).

“It’s great for the Premier League – to have three teams so close, all at the top of their game with great players, it’s a great spectacle.

“We need to make sure we’re there and fighting until the end as we always do.

“To win three Premier Leagues in a row is fantastic but to do four, which no one has ever done, is what we are striving for – that’s our hunger.”

Arsenal went top on Saturday evening after beating Brentford and Liverpool and City’s draw on Merseyside the following day meant they stayed there.

Having gone ahead at Anfield, City might have been disappointed with only a point but Walker insists it is still too early to win or lose titles. And don’t forget that Arsenal have to go to the Etihad on March 31.

“It’s always going to be a big game against Arsenal,” said Walker. “We don’t worry about other teams. We show them the respect they deserve but we’re the reigning champions and have a crown to defend.

The Liverpool game wasn’t going to decide the Premier League, it was only going to put you in the right direction to ultimately get that four in a row. We’ve got a lot of important games left; we’ll keep fighting right until the very end like we always do.”

The narrative has also been about Klopp versus Pep Guardiola and a fairytale farewell for the Liverpool boss, who leaves Anfield this summer.

Walker claimed Guardiola still has the edge over Klopp no matter what happens next.

The England full-back said: “It’s been a special and enjoyable rivalry. We’ve had some great games over the last number of years and I have to say big congratulations to Klopp for what he’s done.

“But what our manager has done and the clubs he’s managed and the players he’s been able to coach... he’s nothing short of a genius.

“That’s ultimately down to the work ethic he puts into the matches, the training sessions and the detail – we just have to execute the plan.”

City, who won the title by five points last term, are the 11-10 title favourites, followed by Liverpool at

9-4 and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal on the 5-2 mark. Aston Villa come next at 250-1.
