Mamma Mia... Amy11 back in the groove
Strictly queen on dance floor again after her cancer battle
STRICTLY’S Amy Dowden has hit the dance floor for the first time following her battle with breast cancer.
The TV favourite, 33, jumped at the chance to show off her moves during rehearsals for West End show Mamma Mia.
Amy was invited backstage as part of her new role as a roving reporter for Lorraine Kelly’s ITV show.
She said: “I am just itching to get on that stage and do some dance moves.”
A choreographer taught the Welsh star moves to
Dancing
Queen by
ABBA – and she performed them perfectly.
She was also seen looking impressed when a dancer did a thrilling split leap at the Novello Theatre.
A source said: “It was quite the moment when Amy got up to dance. She blew everyone away with just how good she is.
“It’s been such a long journey for her but she has never lost any of her sparkle.”
Amy had to pull out of Strictly after last May’s diagnosis. She later had a mastectomy and chemotherapy.
Last month she was told there was no evidence of cancer, although she will have to wait five years to be officially cancer-free.
Amy says on the Lorraine show, which is on weekdays on ITV: “I’ll need to go back to the chemo ward once a month. It’s a brutal injection.
“I’ve got a hormone-fed cancer, so if that keeps my hormones at bay and stops feeding it, then it’s worthwhile.
“I’ve got another shot of life. I’m so grateful and happy.”
Amy, married to dancer Benjamin Jones, hopes to return to Strictly this autumn.
She said: “I’d love to be back with my Strictly family. It’s what makes my dancing heart happy.
“I know it’s going to be a long process to get back on that dance floor but I know I’ll enjoy every step of the way, too.
Watch Amy on Lorraine today from 9am on ITV1 and ITVX.
