DANNY Dyer has told how he has lost a stone through intermittent fasting but sometimes replaces food with a pint of lager.
The former Eastenders star, who also revealed he took part in Celebrity Bake Off with a massive hangover, started the diet last April.
He revealed: “I’ve lost about a stone. For eight hours, I can eat and drink what I want as long as I fast for 16 hours and drink water too.
“People have said it doesn’t work for them and I tell them they must be cheating.
“Ideally, you should break your fast with something healthy. Sometimes for me it’s been a pint of Stella, which isn’t ideal but needs must.”
Danny also admitted he took part in the series feeling worse for wear. It kicks off on Sunday and Danny, who is in episode two, said: “I wasn’t nervous, just very tired, very hungover.
“I am 46 now and got home at half three and up again at half six, so you can imagine baking that showstopper when you are really tired.
“It’s been a struggle with the old concentration. My brain just needs to rest but that is the tricky part.”
Actor Danny will compete against comedians Leigh Francis and Rhod Gilbert in the series, which raises money for Stand Up to Cancer.
But he also admits he did not do much cooking practice beforehand: “I’ve been so busy, so I did try the biscuits very briefly. And I was meant to do 12 – spoiler, I might not have got them all done.
“The showstopper is the one I should have practised but I never. I’ve actually built a wardrobe, eight layers of sponge standing up on top of each other, and then I put fondant on. I am just praying that it does not

collapse.” However, Danny does not have much of a sweet tooth.
He added: “I am more of a savoury man. I don’t mind a bit of chocolate but I am not really a sweet man. Being in the tent doesn’t affect my fasting. I did break my fast on day one as I needed to eat some breakfast. I am not really a breakfast man but I needed some energy.
“Usually I fast until maybe about two or three o’clock in the afternoon. So that’d be my first sort of meal. Sometimes I hang on until dinner time. It does work for me.” Danny
added of taking up the Bake Off challenge: “I’ve got to say this was always on my bucket list. I’ve always loved watching the show. It’s fascinating to be here but I’ve never baked before.
“But cancer affects all of us and I feel it is a really important cause.
“Raising money and awareness is really important.”
The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer, Sunday 7.40pm on Channel 4 and on demand. Danny Dyer appears in episode two.
