Bidders... of the Lost Ark
FILM buffs have a chance to own some cracking props from classic blockbusters — including Indiana Jones’s bullwhip — when they go under the hammer next week.
The 1,600 lots are being sold off from the vaults of the Planet Hollywood restaurant chain.
They include a prototype of the panel Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio clung to in 1997’s Titanic, which starts at £19,500 (€22,837). Tom Hanks’ bus stop bench from Forrest Gump is also for sale.
So too are Charlton Heston’s tablets from 1956’s The Ten Commandments — but don’t covet them unless you have at least £24,000 (€28,107).
And Jack Nicholson’s axe from The Shining (1980) has an opening price of £8,000 (€9,369) when the US Heritage Auction goes
online on
Wednesday. Also available is the Harley-davidson chopper Bruce Willis rode in Pulp Fiction and the stone tablets Charlton Heston carried in The Ten Commandments.
Robert Earl, chairman and co-founder of Planet Hollywood, says: “This auction is an extremely exciting, pivotal moment for Planet Hollywood. We are honoured to collaborate with Heritage on this unique collection that features a selection of memorabilia from our vaults.”
Joe Maddalena, Executive Vice President of Dallas-based Heritage Auctions, says: “I’ve never done an auction like this, filled with so many touchstone moments from cinema history.
“Planet Hollywood is synonymous worldwide with Hollywood’s magic, glamour and glow. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Planet Hollywood since its inception, and Robert Earl is a true visionary.
“This auction is a testament to his passion for the movies, and I am honoured to bring these to our clientcollectors.”
