WHAT: Qatar Airways flight QR6, business class seat.

WHERE: Heathrow to Phuket International via Doha, return fares in business from €4,575, qatarairways.com

EXPERIENCE: Qatar Airways pulls out all the stops with its business class.

As you’d expect, you get your own pod which includes a massive seat, a 17in TV screen and ample leg room.

A flight attendant briefed me on the various storage areas, how to recline the seat, how to use the TV and what was on the menu. There are also multiple charging points for phones and tablets.

I was then offered a welcome drink and it seemed appropriate to go for the champagne. This was full-on luxury.

The blanket and pillow are high quality, too.

You also get some goodies including a Diptyque toiletries set as well as some White Company pyjamas and slippers which you can keep.

The entertainment includes more than 1,000 films, plenty of TV shows and some games.

Meals were restaurant quality and served at a time that suited me, so I could nap whenever I felt like it.

Dishes I enjoyed included hummus dip with pitta bread, tomato soup with warm bread and salmon with scrambled egg on toast.

Everything was executed perfectly so the flight was very comfortable indeed.

Usually on a fight I’m counting down the hours until it’s over. The main difference I noticed when I was in the lap of luxury in business class is that I didn’t mind how long I had to be there for. QUIBBLES: I actually wish the flight had been longer because I wasn’t quite ready to leave! VERDICT: Without doubt the best flight I’ve ever had.
