ALLIANZ NFL MATCHBOX: DIV 1
Tyrone v Monaghan
Omagh, 7.30pm (TG4)
MONAGHAN have performed so many Houdini acts over the years that any forecast around their demise in Division One is fraught with danger but, given their results of late, it would surely be their greatest escape yet.
Still, there is a pathway to safety. They have a good record in Omagh and Mayo may well be in experimental mode when they come to Clones next weekend.
But Tyrone’s form has been more reliable.
VERDICT: Tyrone
Mayo v Derry
Tomorrow, Castlebar 3.45pm (TG4)
BOTH counties are now at a point where you wonder how much more they want out of the League with safety assured and, after their experience last year, Mayo will hardly be chasing wins.
Making a slew of changes ahead of the Dublin game showed where Mickey Harte’s priorities were and his team selection will be informative here.
VERDICT: Mayo
Galway v Dublin
Pearse Stadium, 3.15pm (RTE)
THE win in Monaghan gave Galway crucial breathing space and may yet be enough to keep them up on its own, though they can make sure with a win over Dublin this afternoon.
But given the levels that the All-ireland champions have hit in recent weeks, they’re probably out of Galway’s reach just now. Who knows what it will count for later in the year, but it spells danger for Galway and Padraic Joyce (inset) today.
VERDICT: Dublin
Roscommon v Kerry
Tomorrow, Hyde Pk, 1.45pm (TG4)
RESULTS elsewhere could leave Roscommon going into this game absolutely having to win to avoid relegation, but the truth is they badly require two points regardless.
Their second half fadeout against Mayo was disappointing, while they are perhaps unfortunate to meet Kerry at a stage in the League when they are usually building up a head of steam.
VERDICT: Kerry
