PAT Kenny has said Ryan Tubridy will be back on RTE television before he will.

The Newstalk presenter has not had a TV show since it was confirmed he was no longer working with Virgin Media TV in 2021, shortly after the final season of Pat Kenny’s Big Debate aired.

Asked if he would ever consider returning to RTE television in the future, the 76-year-old host remarked: “I don’t know whether it’ll ever happen… I suspect that Ryan might be back on RTE before me.”

Pat previously revealed his plans for a return to telly have stalled.

He said: “No. I mean I’ve got ideas but I haven’t time, that is my problem at the moment. But if the phone rings, I’ll certainly answer.” Despite new leadership in RTE, he says he “doesn’t know” if a return would “ever happen”.

Pat also said he feels Ryan seems “very chipper” since moving to the UK to host his new Virgin Radio show after leaving RTE last year, adding: “Not for a couple of weeks (spoken to Ryan). He seems very chipper. As long as he is happy.”

Meanwhile, Brendan Courtney has admitted he would love to host his own radio show.

The fashion designer filled in for the Nine O’clock Show along with Maura Derrane and Oliver Callan until Callan was announced as the show’s permanent host.

Brendan said the experience has made him realise how much he wants his own radio show.

The presenter told the RTE Guide: “After the experience of it, I would love a show and to do more radio.

“I felt I was getting more comfortable with it, which is an experience and age thing.

I really enjoyed it.”

Brendan admitted turning

50 in 2021 made him reevaluate his life, adding: “The real thing for me at 50 was, what the f*** am I doing with my life? Am I doing what I want to do and what I should be doing?

“I still don’t know the answer to that. “I’m healthy, surrounded by love and support but I do wonder what do I want my window from 50 to 70 to look like.

“30-50 is about trying to establish yourself, pay rent, get some security in finance, normal life stuff.

“The next stage in my life is finding things that satisfy me and make me happy. I think when you don’t have children, you have more space in your head to think about your

future like that.”
