Irish firefighter charged with raping woman in U.S. hotel
Crosbie, 37, held on $100,000 bail
THIS is the first picture of an Irish firefighter who has been charged with raping a woman in the US.
American media obtained Terrence Crosbie’s mugshot which was taken after his arrest on Saturday.
The 37-year-old Dubliner was nabbed by cops after he boarded a flight at Logan International Airport in Boston – hours after he was interviewed by cops and three days before he was scheduled to fly back to Dublin.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said Crosbie booked a flight at 10.10pm that night but ended up boarding an earlier one at around 7pm.
The Massachusetts State Police stopped the plane on the tarmac and he was removed from it.
On Monday, he was brought before Boston Municipal Court and charged with raping the woman at the Omni Parker House Hotel in Suffolk County.
Prosecutors say the 28-year-old complainant told police she had been assaulted in the early hours of Friday morning.
The District Attorney’s Office said Boston police interviewed the woman at Massachusetts General Hospital who told them she had
been sexually assaulted earlier that morning.
Detectives are also understood to have secured video surveillance from the hotel and from The Black Rose where both Crosbie and the alleged victim had been on Thursday evening.
He is being held on $100,000 bail and was ordered to surrender his passport.
Crosbie has also been ordered not to leave Massachusetts and is back in court for a probable cause hearing on April 16.
He travelled to the US on March 14 as part of an official delegation of Dublin Fire Brigade officers.
They said they had launched an “internal investigation” and placed Crosbie on leave.
In a statement, they added: “We cannot comment on the specific circumstances but we would reiterate the high standards that we expect from all who represent our organisation at any event.
“As a result, we are conducting an internal investigation and establishing the facts in collaboration with the appropriate authorities and the organisers of the delegation.
“As this is a criminal investigation we will not be making any further comment at this time.”
