Chipper owner shock after firebomb attack
Terrified mam ducked just in time as wall behind her ignited
THE owner of a popular chipper is in shock after a thug chucked a firebomb through the door, narrowly missing her.
We don’t know why this happened. I don’t think they intended to target Mam DIEGO DI MURRO
The man threw the lit petrol bomb directly at terrified owner Bernie Di Murro who was working behind the counter on at Zia’s Takeaway in Walkinstown, Dublin, on Tuesday evening.
The shocking incident was captured on CCTV.
Bernie managed to duck at the last moment, with the ignited bomb hitting the wall behind her and setting the place alight.
She immediately kicked into action, grabbing a fire extinguisher as a shocked customer helped.
Another customer ran off after the attacker, who was seen wearing a black Covid mask, escaped.
Bernie’s son, Diego Di Murro, has set up a Gofundme to help his mother. He said they were baffled as to why their business was targeted.
He added: “We don’t know why this happened. I don’t think they intended to target my mam.
“They thought it was an empty shop. Thank God she ducked and got out of the way.
“We’ve been in business here for the past 20 years. I’ve had fallings out, but not to this extreme.”
Diego said his mother is “starting to come down a little bit now”.
He added: “She was very shook after. But she’s starting to get back on her feet. I set up the Gofundme just to cover the areas insurance will not cover, to help mam out a little bit.
“Stuff like this never happens in this area regardless, never mind us.”
Speaking about the impact the bomb attack has had on the business, Diego added: “It’s a kick when we’re down because we only just installed the pizza area and that’s where it got the most damage.we’re just getting everything back on track now.”
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardai are investigating. No injuries have been reported at this time and no arrests have been made.”
